Undergraduate Research Opportunities Research
skills are emphasized in a variety of the department's courses in
addition to our Methods and Techniques of Social Research course. In addition, students may gain
research experience working directly with individual faculty members. Such opportunities vary with the research interests of faculty members and constraints on their time during any given semester. Specific opportunities are often advertised on the departmental e-list, which automatically includes all sociology and criminal justice majors. Students may also approach particular faculty members with research proposals that fit the faculty member's areas of expertise. Independent study credits may be available. Student research both from courses and indepedent studies is showcased each spring in the department's Undergraduate Research Poster Session, co-sponsored with the Department of Psychology.
