Kate Fonshell (1st season)
A world-class runner, Kate Fonshell joins the Rutgers-Camden cross
country coaching staff
this season, adding another accomplishment to a resume which includes
six All-American honors,
a national championship and a berth on the Olympic Team.
Fonshell earned a spot on the 1996 Olympic Team by winning the
Olympic Trials and becoming the National Champion in the 10,000-meter
run. She also was ranked No. 1 in the country that year in the same
event.
While attending Villanova University, Fonshell was a six-time
All-American and two-time member of the NCAA Cross Country Championship
team. Her personal records are 4:26 for the mile, 15:37 for the
5K, 32:18 for the 10K, and 2:40:55 for the marathon.
Fonshell earned both her BA in Psychology (1991) and MS (1994)
in Counseling and Human Services from Villanova. She is a doctoral
candidate at Temple University in the department of Kinesiology,
specializing in the Psychology of Human Movement.
Fonshell currently resides in Ardmore, PA, where she is a certified
counselor, coach and sport psychology consultant. She also continues
to train and race competitively.
